Tips for the Courier - Driving Abroad

Overseas courier work is very popular, and it is easy to see why. Although many people are happy to stay in the UK to carry out their work, some like to head abroad so that they can experience foreign travel as a part of their job - or just find an alternative source of revenue. If you would like to get involved in overseas courier work, here are the top few things that you should know.
Language Differences
It is important to have at least some knowledge of the language when you head to a new country for work. Although many people will understand English, it does not hurt to learn the basics, and it may help you out in a number of situations. One idea is to learn a new language whilst you are working on courier jobs in the UK. It is the perfect environment, and if you purchase an audio course you could spend an hour or two each day learning the basics whilst you are at work.
Know the Rules of the Road
The rules of the road abroad may differ quite a lot from what you are used to in the UK. For example, not only will you be driving on the other side of the road in many situations, but you may also be required by law to carry a warning triangle or snow chains depending on which country you drive in. Always make sure you know exactly what is required of you before taking on overseas courier work to avoid any problems with the local authorities.
Get Insurance
If you work for a courier company then they should take care of the insurance you will require for driving abroad. However, if you are self employed then make sure you find a good insurance policy - you don't want to get stuck in a situation abroad without insurance, as costs can be very high. Don't assume your current insurance covers you, and always compare deals to look for the best policy for your business needs.
Take Your Courier Work Further
Overseas courier work is always an option for drivers who want to experience something different and who would like to work in a completely new environment. If you want to go abroad then make sure you do your research first and know what's involved, and you'll have a better chance of getting more our of the experience.
