What To Shop For - Diwali Gift Ideas

The festive season has begun and it's time to create your Diwali gift ideas list whilst preparing for the festival of lights, Diwali 2011. Diwali holidays are celebrated with great joy across the length and breadth of the world. You cannot help but enjoy the lights, decorations and firecrackers that abound during this season of Diwali wishes.
The shops, malls and even street stores have all brought out their wares and their "Sales" placards are on display. The first steps for preparing for this festival start with the cleaning of your house then shopping for the things you'll need for this Diwali.
Here is a small list to help:
Diya, candles, lanterns, lamps and decorative bulbs: You will need all these items for the lighting. Diyas (earthenware oil lamps) are used in the evening and you'll need four small ones and one big one for celebrations.
Apart from that, you'll also need at least one diya for each room of your house. You can put up as much as lighting you want using lanterns, lamps and strings of electric lights. Keep the size of your house in mind when shopping for decorations.
Remember Diwali is all about fresh starts therefore don't use any leftover diyas from Diwali 2010. You can shop for these Diwali lanterns even a month prior to Diwali.
Sweets: Sweets are often exchanged with family and friends as a mark of happiness and well wishes. You can prepare them at home or order them at your nearest sweet shop. Take stock of how much you will need and order accordingly.
You can also ask for sweet baskets that contain a mix of different sweets. Order in advance for the sweets to be delivered on the days of Diwali or a day before and make sure that it's guaranteed to be fresh when delivered.
Clothes and ornaments: It is customary to wear new clothes and ornaments on Diwali. You can shop for traditional wear well in advance to give the tailors time enough for fitting and alterations. Have two different sets of clothes, one for the events and one for bursting the firecrackers (preferably cotton or a material which is more fireproof!).
Firecrackers: Every year new kinds of firecrackers come onto the market. Shop for the ones you're more comfortable with. Try to avoid smoky crackers as they can cause allergies and even hearing impairment if they're overly noisy.
