These work by investing some money with a guarantee that you will receive a certain amount back. You cannot access your CDs for a set amount of time, which means that the interest rates are sky high. This time can be anywhere, from months to years.
Unfortunately you'll have to have a decent amount of money to invest, as there is a minimum purchase.
These options listed above are not the only investments for beginners. There are other options that may be appropriate for you. It depends greatly upon the amount of capital you have.
