Tubal Reversal or IVF - The Ultimate Decision

For any couple that wants to have fertility restored after having a tubal ligation the decision between IVF and tubal reversal is no doubt extremely tough. Wanting to have that second chance at having a baby means having to make the right decision, this is not easy. Even when you think you have made the final decision you are still second guessing yourself.
The best thing a couple can do is research the facts. Know the pros and cons to both options. If you have questions, then ask all of them. If you do not get the answers you are looking for then ask someone else. If you have a question on tubal reversal then call a tubal reversal center. Asking a physician who really has not researched the tubal reversal success rate or has never dealt with IVF will not get you the answers you need. Ask the people who are considered to be the experts in what they do.
When trying to make the decision it is also wise to gather as much information as you can and write it all down. What are the costs of both tubal reversal and IVF? Different doctors will charge differently. What is included in the price?
When gathering the information to make the decision always be sure to ask the success rates of each. When getting the success rates make sure they are the successes of the particular physician you are speaking with. A blanket answer of "well tubal reversal surgery has a better outcome over IVF" is not acceptable. Has there been information gathered or a study to prove this? Who conducted this study and where can I view it? Do not accept answers that you are not comfortable with.
When speaking to the staff how are you treated? If you call and are treated as though you are being a pest it is time to move on. A person asking a question because they want the facts makes a better patient. An informed patient is a person who knows what is going on and what to expect.
Although it has been proven that tubal ligation reversal surgery does have a better pregnancy success rate over IVF it is up to the couple to decide. They have to be the ones to make the ultimate decision because in the end there are no guarantees. A couple has to make the decision that they feel is right for them. By gathering information and seeking support the couple will be able to make the informed decision that is so crucially needed at this time in their lives.
