Has the Information Age Become the Impersonal Age Too?

I have been noticing more and more how we have become robotic and impersonal in this day and age and it scares me. Everything I receive seems to be created by a machine and not a person. The other day I get a Wedding Thank you card and its all pre-printed and not signed. I took an entire day out of my life to come to your wedding and celebrate with you and give you a financial gift, but you don't have 2 seconds to put a pen to the card and sign it?
This is so impersonal and it angers me, as it goes into business acumen as well. I get Holiday cards from vendors that are pre-printed and not signed. Merry Christmas from the printer I guess? The vendor obviously spent some money to do the cards and thought enough of me to send me one, but the message is lost since he didn't take the time to sign it.
Electronic signatures are great for legal documents and have taken some of the time and pain out of signing a document than scan/email or fax it back. It's truly a time saver and move in the right direction for automation and document capture. I am not saying this is where we are going wrong in accepting all documents being delivered with electronic signatures. This is a great solution and has its place.
But this has been going on through many years and there has been a progression building towards eliminating a personal touch as we have gone through mailing important original documents, to being able to fax them, to scanning and emailing, now just emailing through the creation of electronic signatures being recognized as legal.
That said, we should not go this route when doing something like saying Thank you, Happy Birthday, or Congratulations. It doesn't convey the personal touch that people aged 40 and up have come to expect and appreciate. Mom and Dad and Grandma and Grandpa expect you to sign your cards, so make them happy and take the time!
Seriously, I do realize we are living in a digital world, and I am a digital guy but take the time to let people know you really care when you say Thank you to a friend, relative or customer. It means more to the receiver when they know you actually took the time to sign it with a pen and not electronically.
