Winterlicious Cuisine Toronto 2012

Toronto's Multicultural Cuisine
Toronto is known as an international city for it's multicultural inhabitants. The effects of having such a diverse population are felt throughout Toronto businesses and neighborhoods, and cuisine is no exception to this idea. Toronto has many distinct neighborhoods that often cater to the cultural background of the bulk of the population for that neighborhood. Little Italy and Corso Italia neighborhoods are known for their Italian Food. The many Chinatowns (6 in all) are especially recognized for not only Chinese but Vietnamese food as well. The Danforth neighborhood specializes in Greek cuisine, while The Annex caters to those looking for Hungarian good. Little India, Little Portugal and Little Jamaica all have food selections from their namesakes. Those looking for Polish fare should try Roncesvales and those wanting some Latin flavor can try Kensington Market.
Basically, if you love food from anywhere in the world, chances are you can find it in Toronto. The city celebrates the food as much as the cultures that it comes from. So much so that Toronto is know for two major food festivals each year known as Summerlicious and Winterlicious. Both of these events occur during the slower months for restaurants, so they not only provide an opportunity for businesses to bring in some extra income, but also for customers to experience a wide variety of foods at a singular event. The festivals feature a variety of 3-course meals from quality restaurants, no big chains allowed here. The restaurants are hand selected from applications by the Special Events Department of the City of Toronto. Price standards, health inspection records, and quality reviews from prominent publications are all required and factored into inclusion decisions.
